How to use Norgate Premium Data

Many users subscribe to Norgate Premium Data for their stock market data. This post will explain how to read that data into EdgeRater.
The Norgate Premium Data is stored on your computer in MetaStock format and for this example I have stored it here:
C:\Norgate Premium Data\Norgate Database\
Note that the above folder is the 'root' of the database, there are sub-folders of the root folder that contain the actual data which might be named as follows:
C:\Norgate Premium Data\Norgate Database\A
C:\Norgate Premium Data\Norgate Database\B
C:\Norgate Premium Data\Norgate Database\C
C:\Norgate Premium Data\Norgate Database\D
Etc
This particular folder structure is created by Norgate to contain the symbols in alphabetical grouping and is typically used because the MetaStock format has a limit on the number of symbols that one particular directory can store.
Now, to connect to that data in EdgeRater you can configure the ‘MetaStock’ data provider to point to the root folder:
Next, you can create various symbol lists that you are interested in. These are just text files that contain one symbol per line with an optional description of the symbol after a separating comma. For example this would be possible contents of a symbol list text file:
ZA,Zuoan Fashion Limited Common
ZB+A,Zions Bancorp
ZB+B,
ZB+C,
ZB+E,
ZB+F,
ZEP,
ZF,
ZLC,
ZMH,
ZNH,
ZQK,
ZTR,
ZX,
ZZ,
ZZC
These symbol list files should be saved to the {Documents}\{EdgeRater}\Symbol Lists directory and the text files should have the file extension .txt or .lst to indicate to the system that they contain symbols.
Once the symbol list file exists in the Symbol List directory it will be automatically available within EdgeRater for selection and further configuration if needed. In this particular case I want to configure the list so that it is associated with the MetaStock data provider that I set up earlier:
Once the data provider is set I can hit the ‘Update Data’ button and the configured data is then extracted from the MetaStock files and a list snapshot is built. Selecting the Data Snapshot tab I am able to see the amount of data in the snapshot for each symbol:
That's it - just a couple of simple steps to set up and once it's done you can just hit the 'Update Data' button each day to get the latest data.
